About Kirk

Kirk Humphreys is a TAP (gifted) mathematics teacher at Caruso Middle School in Deerfield, IL.  He has been teaching for 20 1/2 years.

As an educator, Kirk prides himself in being an innovator and is constantly reinventing his math classroom. His classroom is a “flipped classroom” and gives the control of his classroom to the students to take responsibility in their own learning. He is always recreating his classroom to incorporate technology and always improving his classroom.

In addition to being a dedicated teacher, Kirk has worked for the Illinois State Board of Education for the last 10 years in creating and reviewing questions written on the ISAT test. He has previously served on the Blackhawk College “College for Kids” Board. He currently serves on the Illinois State Assessment Review Committee.

In February of 2013, Kirk was featured on a WQAD segment regarding his “flipped classroom.” He has been the recipient of the following awards:

Kirk enjoys singing on a worship team as well as spending time with friends and family.
